(Prov 5:1 NASB) My son, give attention to my wisdom, Incline your ear to my understanding;
(Prov 5:2 NASB) That you may observe discretion, And your lips may reserve knowledge.
Prov 5:2: Here Solomon is going to teach his sons discretion.
(Prov 5:3 NASB) For the lips of an adulteress drip honey, And smoother than oil is her speech;
(Prov 5:4 NASB) But in the end she is bitter as wormwood, Sharp as a two-edged sword.
(Prov 5:5 NASB) Her feet go down to death, Her steps lay hold of Sheol.
(Prov 5:6 NASB) She does not ponder the path of life; Her ways are unstable, she does not know it.
Prov 5:6: The adultress has smooth speech and sounds attractive, but her feet go down to death. She does not realize that her ways are unstable.
(Prov 5:7 NASB) Now then, my sons, listen to me, And do not depart from the words of my mouth.
(Prov 5:8 NASB) Keep your way far from her, And do not go near the door of her house,
(Prov 5:9 NASB) Lest you give your vigor to others, And your years to the cruel one;
Prov 5:9: Sons are to keep away from the adultress. It will lead to a waste of their lives.
(Prov 5:10 NASB) Lest strangers be filled with your strength, And your hard-earned goods go to the house of an alien;

Prov 5:11: Abiding with an adultress leads to a waste of a life that takes a young man away from the Torah of the Father.
(Prov 5:12 NASB) And you say, “How I have hated instruction! And my heart spurned reproof!
(Prov 5:13 NASB) “And I have not listened to the voice of my teachers, Nor inclined my ear to my instructors!
(Prov 5:14 NASB) “I was almost in utter ruin In the midst of the assembly and congregation.”
Prov 5:14: Engaging with an adultress will lead a man away from the assembly of Elohim.
(Prov 5:15 NASB) Drink water from your own cistern, And fresh water from your own well.
Prov 5:15: Solomon now uses erotic language in speaking of love within the confines of marriage.
(Prov 5:16 NASB) Should your springs be dispersed abroad, Streams of water in the streets?
Prov 5:16: Should a man of Elohim father children with a street whore?
(Prov 5:17 NASB) Let them be yours alone, And not for strangers with you.
(Prov 5:18 NASB) Let your fountain be blessed, And rejoice in the wife of your youth.
(Prov 5:19 NASB) As a loving hind and a graceful doe, Let her breasts satisfy you at all times; Be exhilarated always with her love.
Prov 5:19: Solomon uses the same imagery he used in the Song of Solomon in describing female beauty.
(Prov 5:20 NASB) For why should you, my son, be exhilarated with an adulteress, And embrace the bosom of a foreigner?
(Prov 5:21 NASB) For the ways of a man are before the eyes of the LORD, And He watches all his paths.
(Prov 5:22 NASB) His own iniquities will capture the wicked, And he will be held with the cords of his sin.
(Prov 5:23 NASB) He will die for lack of instruction, And in the greatness of his folly he will go astray.
